Terms of Use

These are the terms for using AtlasPlate. Reading the site means accepting them. They are short, because there is not much to argue about on a recipe site.

What the site is

AtlasPlate writes down dishes that English-language recipe sites have covered badly or not at all. Every recipe names the regional version it follows and credits the cookbook, archive or community source it came from. What the site does not do is claim first-hand authority over these kitchens: we edit and we source, and we do not present ourselves as cooks from any of these regions. Where a source disagrees with another source, the recipe says so instead of picking a winner quietly.

Cooking is your call

The recipes are information, not instructions issued by someone who can see your kitchen. You are the one holding the knife and standing at the heat, and the outcome is yours: check that meat, fish and eggs reach a safe internal temperature, read labels for allergens before you serve anyone else, and use your own judgement on fermentation, canning and anything else where time and temperature decide whether food is safe. Ingredients vary, pans vary, altitudes vary. If a step looks wrong for your equipment, trust the equipment.

Nothing on the site is dietary or medical advice. If you have an allergy, a condition or a restriction that makes a mistake expensive, check with someone qualified rather than with a recipe.

Using the content

The text and images on AtlasPlate are ours unless credited otherwise. You are welcome to cook anything here, write it in your own notebook, and cook it for whoever you like. You may quote a short passage with a link back. Republishing a recipe in full, or feeding the site to a scraper, is not covered by that welcome. Ingredient lists are facts and nobody owns them; the wording around them is written work.

Sources named in a recipe belong to the people who made them. A credit is a credit, not a transfer.

Links out

Recipes link to sources so you can check them. Those sites are not ours, we do not control what they publish, and a link is not an endorsement of everything else on the page it points to.

Errors

We get things wrong. A quantity gets mistyped, a source turns out to be weaker than it looked, a technique gets described in a way that only makes sense to someone who already knows it. Tell us through the contact form and we will fix it and say that we fixed it. AtlasPlate is offered as it stands, without a warranty that every page is complete or current, and we are not liable for a dish that did not work out.

Changes

These terms can change. When they do, the date below moves. Continuing to use the site after that means the new version applies.
